Beyond his diving exploits, Daley has become a celebrity and popular YouTuber
Tom Daley is an Olympic diver for Team GB. Since first breaking onto the scene a decade ago, Daley has gone from occasional sports betting star to a celebrity and YouTuber.
Daley is one of the biggest names in the British Olympic team. He’s bound to feature throughout betting tips today at the Tokyo Games, and despite competing in one of the smaller sports, all eyes in the UK will be on Daley.
Who is Tom Daley?
He already has two Olympic medals to his name – winning a bronze in London and Rio – and heads to Japan with hopes of improving that tally.Read below for everything you need to know about Tom Daley, including his net worth, his Olympics record and social media accounts…
Tom Daley Net Worth
Tom Daley has a net worth of around £3.5 million. Obviously, being a diver isn’t the most lucrative career path in the world, but Daley has had various other revenue streams since becoming famous.
Endorsement deals are plentiful for the Plymouth-born Olympian.
Argos, Bulk Powders and Adidas are just a handful of the companies who have been willing to pay to be associated with Daley, who has become one of the most universally liked athletes in the UK.
He’s also made countless television appearances over the years, including presenting Splash!
Tom Daley Husband
Tom Daley is married to Dustin Lance Black. In March 2021, they marked eight years as a couple, and they had their wedding at Bovey Castle in Devon in May 2017.
Daley has spoken very openly about his sexuality. In an interview with The Guardian in 2015, the diver said, “I guess it has always been in the back of my head, but you never really know.
"I’d never had feelings for a person along those lines. I’d been in relationships with girls where I’d had sexual feelings, but it became so much more intense when I met Lance.”
After they met through a mutual friend in 2013, Black and Daley kept in touch via text message for a few months before becoming a couple.
Black has played a massive role in the campaign for same-sex marriage in the US, and was incredibly supportive of Daley coming out.
Daley said, “He was supportive, but it never got to a point where he said, ‘You should do something about coming out.’ He was just always there, supportive. At no point was he at all pushy.”
Since getting married in 2017, Daley and Black have had a child via surrogate.
Tom Daley Son
Tom Daley and his husband Dustin Lance Black have a soon called Robert Ray. Born in 2018 via a surrogate, Daley and Black do not know which one of them is the father, but that’s something they’re not interested in changing.
Daley said, “But one thing we’re very strongly leaning towards is that we don’t want to know. He’s ours.”
The couple embarked on their journey of surrogate parenthood in the United States rather than the UK. There’s good reason, too, as in the UK, the surrogate remains the legal guardian of the baby until the legal rights are sorted out in court.
Daley and Black have a very close relationship with the surrogate, something which is clearly important to them.
“She becomes such a massive part of your life for those nine months. You’re only matched with people who have the same desire. Some don’t want to have long-term relationships [with the parents].”
Tom Daley’s son shares a name with the diver’s late father, who passed away in 2011.
“My dad taught me so many lessons and there’s something really special about passing them on to our little son.”
Tom Daley Olympics
Tom Daley was an Olympic star in 2012. Along with Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis and a handful of others, Daley was everywhere for his home Games. He entered the London Olympics with Peter Waterfield, harbouring serious medal hopes.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be. Waterfield and Daley were hit by a poor fourth dive in the 10-metre men’s synchronised platform.
Daley made up for it in dramatic fashion in the 10-metre men’s platform, though, taking the bronze medal after being allowed to retake a dive.
Daniel Goodfellow was paired with Daley for Rio in 2016, and he once again brought home a bronze medal.
This time, it was success in the synchronised event, and he failed to reach the final on the individual platform despite coming top in the preliminary round.
Tom Daley Crochet
Not just an Olympic star, Tom Daley became the world’s leading crochet influencer in 2020.
Stuck at home with everyone searching for hobbies, Daley dived into crocheting, even setting up an Instagram to show off his work, @madewithlovebytomdaley.
Whether crocheting for his son, friends or even making his own colourful jumpers, Daley’s skills have drawn plenty of praise from his followers.
His friend Sophie Lee even modelled Daley’s interpretation of a Gucci mini-dress, which impressed thousands across various social media platforms.
