  • Fowler’s net worth has been reported to be roughly £31 million

When it comes to Premier League Odds, not many strikers have been as prolific as Robbie Fowler. Despite growing up an Everton fan, Fowler was adored at Anfield.

A member of the Premier League 100 club, and eighth all-time in Premier League goals, Fowler was not just a lethal finisher.

In his pomp, he was a masterful technician, a pure talent capable of the brilliant alongside a knack for making the basics look so easy.

While he hasn’t been an option in a football bet for almost a decade, Fowler has been trying his hand at management alongside his interests away from the sport. Let’s dive deeper into the life of the Toxteth-born striker.

Net Worth

Robbie Fowler’s net worth is estimated to be around £31 million. Featuring in the 2005 Sunday Time Rich List, Fowler might have spent many years in the Premier League, but earnings were a long way short of what we’re used to in the 2020s.

While his playing salaries will have been pretty substantial, the man known as ‘God’ at Anfield actually made most of his money through the property market.

Far from the upmarket investments usually associated with wealthy athletes, Fowler invested heavily in the buy-to-let market. He started out in his teenage days after an important meeting with then Liverpool Graeme Souness.

In quotes reported by The Daily Mirror in 2015, Fowler explained the meeting with Souness, “’This is a financial adviser. He will look after you for the rest of your life’. That was by far the smartest thing I did”.

“As a young kid, I wasn’t really interested at that stage – getting financial advice was far from my mind. I was focused on playing football. But I got onboard with this financial adviser, and I heeded his advice, and that was my smartest money decision.

“Don’t get me wrong, not everything went into property at the time. And I didn’t just invest on my own, because when I was 18, I was on next to nothing and I couldn’t afford it, regardless of what people think about football players.

“I invested with partners. It was all through the advice I was given, not because I knew anything or wanted to know it, it was totally by accident.

“When you’re 18, I think it is probably the last thing on your mind. You’re obviously signing new contracts and you want to go out, you probably want a new car, and you’ll get all the things that you haven’t had.

“But then all of a sudden, there comes a time when you think: Uh, I need to pull the reins in a little bit here and maybe look after my life after football. When I was 18, that was far from my mind, but over the years, it does materialise that way.”

Fowler isn’t the only former Liverpool striker to amass a net worth in the £30 million range. Michael Owen’s figure is pretty close to Fowler’s, while their former teammate Steven Gerrard is up at £67 million according to Goal.

Wife

Robbie Fowler is married to Kerrie Fowler. The couple tied the knot in 2001, and they have four children together. Kerrie has a key role in the management of Fowler’s property empire.

In a 2015 interview with The Guardian, the former Liverpool striker said, “Since then, and I’m not embarrassed to admit this, it’s my wife who’s the one who has been wearing the trousers.

"She’s the boss. She did it all while I was playing. Basically I go out and earn the money. She’s happy with that concept.”

Former Clubs

Obviously best remembered for his two stints with Liverpool, Robbie Fowler represented eight clubs throughout his playing career.

Others from Premier League predictions included Leeds and Manchester City, while he later starred in Australia and Thailand.

His best performances were during that first spell in front of the Kop. The tenure came to an emotional end in 2001, however, with Fowler feeling then manager Gerard Houllier had forced him out of the club.

Injuries and poor form limited Fowler’s impact over the following years, though he returned to Liverpool in 2006 and received a true hero’s send off from the club.

  • Liverpool (1993-2001) – 330 appearances, 171 goals

  • Leeds United (2001-2003) – 33 appearances, 14 goals

  • Manchester City (2003-2006) – 92 appearances, 28 goals

  • Liverpool (2006-2007) – 39 appearances, 12 goals

  • Cardiff City (2007-2008) – 16 appearances, six goals

  • Blackburn Rovers (2008) – six appearances, zero goals

  • Northern Queensland Fury (2009-2010) – 26 appearances, nine goals

  • Perth Glory (2010-2011) – 28 appearances, nine goals

  • Muangthong United (2011-2012)  - 20 appearances, four goals

East Bengal

Robbie Fowler was named as manager of East Bengal in October 2020. He left the club by mutual consent in September 2021, after his team won just three of the 20 league matches he was in charge of.

This was the former England international’s third match in management following spells with Muangthong United and Brisbane Roar.

Nickname

Robbie Fowler earned the ‘God’ nickname from Liverpool fans. According to his autobiography, this began to stick following a hat-trick in less than five minutes against Arsenal in 1994-95.

Speaking to Sky Sports after that match, Fowler said, “I was knackered at one stage. I just had three chances and the three of them just seemed to go in.”

Still Liverpool’s top scorer in the Premier League, Fowler will forever be known as ‘God’ in the red half of Merseyside.

Everton Fan

Just like Jamie Carragher, Ian Rush, Michael Owen and other Liverpool icons, Robbie Fowler actually grew up an Everton fan before representing the Anfield outfit.

Of course, Fowler’s allegiances switched when he began representing one of the most successful football clubs in England.
