Aaron Rodgers experiment has failed

It’s gotten to the point where I’m almost tired of talking about the New York Jets, but they always seem to be in the news.

As the NFL season progresses, unless you’re a hardcore fan, you start to ignore the teams that aren’t showing you anything.

They’re 2-6… they don’t deserve our attention anymore! With that said, as a Giants fan, I’ll take any opportunity to move on from talking about the Jets.

However, it’s starting to look like the beginning of the end for the Aaron Rodgers experiment. He’s not the same player he once was, which is sad to say because he’s a future Hall of Famer.

He thinks he can beat teams with his mind and he’s relying on that, but it isn’t working. The experiment has failed.

Rodgers hasn’t lived up to expectations, but I think the bar was set too high to begin with. They were expecting the Aaron Rodgers of old, but he was never going to be that.

Since Rodgers left, Green Bay have shown what you can do with a quarterback who is playing for the team, not for themselves.

Lions ahead of Chiefs for Super Bowl glory

I’ll take every opportunity I can get at the moment to remind people that the Detroit Lions were my pick to reach the Super Bowl this year, and now they’re truly showing that they might even be favourites to win it!

I think there’s a genuine case to be made for that.

We have to realise that the Kansas City Chiefs are a defensive team, that’s just what they are now.

But what they showed us last year was that they are a championship team. They have a quarterback who can singlehandedly get them out of tough situations and produce crucial moments in a game.

Mahomes was on fire in the playoffs last year, but is that just what the Chiefs are now, a playoffs team? Maybe.

It’s not been an easy season for them with all the receiver changes and never really having a full roster, but they’re still winning games.

On the flip side, Detroit are just on a roll right now. However, I’m not sure they’re going to be able to keep this squad together beyond this season.

Ben Johnson might be gone at the end of the year, so it may be a case of now or never for them. That said, they look good, they’re tough to beat, and I get why they’re number one in the power rankings at the moment.

Detroit to keep run going in Green Bay

The first of my games to watch this week comes from Green Bay as the Packers take on the Detroit Lions. This is exactly the type of game the fans want to see.

Another enticing divisional matchup in the NFC North, which is the best division in the NFL at the moment. Not only is it the best division, but these are two of the best teams, and we want to see them go toe-to-toe.

Hopefully Jordan Love is able to play because that’ll have a significant impact and we want to see the best players on the field at all times. The Packers’ defense is playing well and they really bring the fight to the opposition.

But unsurprisingly I’m siding with Detroit here. They run the ball well, they’ve been putting a ton of points on the board this year and their defense has been strong enough.

This is an exciting matchup with two good quarterbacks, two good coaches, and two good teams on show. The cream will rise to the top here and it’ll be so exciting to see who that is. I’m going with Detroit!

Prediction: Detroit Lions to win

Rock With Jackson in Baltimore

My second game to watch comes between two teams who clearly have very different priorities.

The Baltimore Ravens have the top-ranked offense and the 24th-ranked defense in the league, while Denver bring the best defense and the 23rd-best offense. What a matchup we have on our hands!

The Broncos’ defense has been so impressive this season. They get in the face of the offense and cause so many problems.

You only need to look at their defensive backs and cornerbacks; Patrick Surtain II is probably the best corner in the NFL! They know how to stop the run and they’ve looked so solid this year.

Their offense obviously doesn’t catch the eye, but Bo Nix is improving every week and Sean Payton is obviously a great play-caller.

However, teams always like to try and make it as difficult as possible for rookie quarterbacks, so he won’t have it easy here.

The Ravens’ offense is their main weapon and that is largely down to one man, Lamar Jackson. I always like to look at the quarterbacks in a tight game like this and when I look at Lamar Jackson vs. Bo Nix, I simply can’t fall on the side of Nix.

I say it all the time, the NFL is all about players. If there’s one man who can bring the X factor here it’s Lamar Jackson; he’s one of the frontrunners for the MVP.

Baltimore will be hoping this game turns into a test of who can make a play, and in that situation I can’t go against Lamar.

Prediction: Baltimore Ravens to win
