NFL Week 12 Predictions & Tips
-
The Bills won AFC bragging rights by handing the Chiefs their first loss of the season in Week 11.
-
Denver, Detroit, and Houston all left Week 11 with hefty margins of victory.
-
Week 12 is a big one for byes, with the Falcons, Bengals, Jags, Jets, Saints, and Bills all off.
It finally happened; after weeks of close calls, the Kansas City Chiefs lost a game.
Their main AFC rivals, the Buffalo Bills, managed to achieve what was starting to look impossible by besting the champions 30-21 at home.
Point Spread - Detroit Lions (-7.5)
Point Spread - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-6.5)
Point Spread - Denver Broncos (-7.5)
Elsewhere, the Houston Texans made the most of the Cowboys’ dire situation to win 34-10, the Denver Broncos completely dismantled the Falcons on both sides of the ball to win 38-6, and the Detroit Lions won by 52-6 over the Jaguars.
It was a huge week that saw many Super Bowl dark horses lay down the gauntlet, and now, six teams are on bye weeks. These are the NFL picks for betting in Week 12.
Detroit Lions at Indianapolis Colts
The Detroit Lions have been relentless on their charge to 9-1 this season, boasting a net points line of +159, going 5-0 on the road, and scoring a league-high 336 points.
Even scarier to think is that the Lions have actually been better than their league averages since October. They average 33.6 points per game to date, but since Week 5, they’ve actually been clawing a clip of 39.1 on average.
Last week was a walk in the park for the Lions, and they certainly made the most of the opportunity against a travelling 2-9 Jacksonville Jaguars.
In the end, Jared Goff had thrown over 400 yards and four TDs to win 52-6 – which wasn’t quite enough to get the Lions in the conversation for one of the biggest wins in NFL history.
Now at 5-6, the Indianapolis Colts’ record and -14 net points quite aptly showcase where the team is at – they’re distinctly middle-of-the-park on both sides of the ball.
They’re too talented to dwell in the basement of the AFC – let alone the AFC South – but lack either that cohesion or collection of consistent X-factor players to move up the standings just yet.
It’s a team that’s building around a young QB who missed the glut of his first season, so victories like that of their 28-27 triumph over the New York Jets are good indicators of what could come.
The Lions are a different beast entirely, though, and on their current run, they look unlikely to be hindered by even a spirited Colts team.
So, the Week 12 NFL pick here goes to the Lions at -7.5 on the spread and Amon-Ra St. Brown scoring an anytime touchdown at the Lucas Oil Stadium.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New York Giants
The New York Giants have finally conceded that their decision to give Daniel Jones a fat $160 million deal after one surprisingly good season in 2022 was a bad call.
Big Blue will bench him this week and likely cut him at the end of the season to save themselves around $23 million in injury guarantees and only take a $22 million dead cap hit.
In Jones’ place, it’ll be Tommy DeVito under centre for the Giants, looking to spark some kind of resurgence from their 2-8 record coming out of a bye week.
For the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, this trip to Rutherford, New Jersey, is their shot to stop the rot. The team that rampaged to such a strong start with Baker Mayfield as its starter is now on a four-game skid.
Yet, the string of four losses hasn’t put the team at a complete loss. They’re very much in the NFC South race, and three of the four have been narrow, to say the least.
It was a spirited loss to fall to the Baltimore Ravens 41-31, but then overtime losses to the Falcons (31-26) and Chiefs (30-24) were followed by a 23-20 loss to the 49ers when the game was 20-20 with 41 seconds left.
Coming out of their bye, the thinking is that the Bucs will be able to shake off this run of losses against top-class opponents and put a beating on the New York Giants.
This obviously won’t be a repeat of one of the lowest-scoring games in league history.
Looking for a return to the performances that beat the Commanders, Lions, and Eagles, this Week 12 NFL pick goes to the Buccaneers on the spread at -6.5 and Bucky Irving to score a touchdown.
Denver Broncos at Las Vegas Raiders
Losing 26-20 and 13-16 without a touchdown pass and four interceptions, it looked to be a rough road ahead for Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos, but since Week 3, he’s grown to become a rookie of the year contender.
Buoyed by what might prove to be the best defence in the NFL, Nix has only been picked off twice since they shocked the Buccaneers while also throwing for 14 scores.
Last week, the Broncos defensemen gobbled up the Atlanta Falcons as Nix surgically moved the sticks, going 28 from 33 attempts to throw for four more touchdowns, over 300 yards, and without getting picked.
Rock bottom of what’s become a competitive AFC West without a win in the division, the Las Vegas Raiders endured their sixth consecutive loss in Week 11 – this time losing 34-19 to the Miami Dolphins.
There were a few bright spots for the Raiders, though. The offence generally looked more assured with Gardner Minshew being led by the new offensive co-ordinator, Scott Turner, and rookie tight end Brock Bowers enjoyed another mighty outing.
Still, the run game continued to be non-existent, and both main backs picked up injuries. Against the vaunted Broncos defence, a one-dimensional effort on offence won’t cut it, and even Bowers may struggle to produce.
Broncos to beat -7.5 on the point spread gets the NFL Week 12 pick for this game.
The Week 12 picks for NFL betting here have gravitated toward travelling teams, with the Broncos, Lions, and Buccaneers tipped to beat the spread on the road.
