Ryan Gravenberch is on a five-year contract with Liverpool. His weekly salary is £150,000, according to Spotrac. The contract is set to expire after the 2027-28 Premier League campaign when the Netherlands international will only be in his mid-twenties. 

By Premier League standards, this deal has the potential to be something of a bargain. There are 42 players in England’s topflight earning more than Gravenberch per week, including Timo Werner, Harry Maguire, and Antony. 

Liverpool have landed Gravenberch on a pretty reasonable deal. Of course, if he performs as the club hopes, he will see his wage increase through a contract extension long before this deal expires.

This might sound like a massive salary, but this is simply the going rate for players of Gravenberch’s calibre and age. 

Transfer To Anfield

Liverpool signed Ryan Gravenberch for £34.2 million from Bayern Munich on the final day of the 2023 summer transfer window.

After making just three league starts for Bayern in 2022-23, the Dutchman was pleased to make the move to Merseyside.

He said, "I'm very happy. Very happy that the deal is done and I'm finally here.

"If you see it from the outside, it's one of the biggest clubs in the world. Also the fans, the stadium, I think everything from the outside is top. So that's why [it was the right club].

"I'm really looking forward to [being at Anfield] and I can't wait to hear the You'll Never Walk Alone song.

"Now we start fresh again, a new start, and I'm going to give my all for this club. [My ambitions are] to win prizes. To win prizes, play a lot and show them who we are and who I am."

How Tall Is Ryan Gravenberch?

Ryan Gravenberch stands at 6’3, making him one of the taller outfield players in the Premier League. 

He is roughly the same height as Leon Goretzka and Michael Ballack. According to Wikipedia, Gravenberch is approximately an inch taller than Yaya Toure. 

Best Position

Versatility is one of Ryan Gravenberch’s more valuable traits.

Like other players of his ilk, his ‘best position’ is still a popular topic. Gravenberch is adept in a single pivot, double pivot, as a number eight, or as a number 10. 

A number eight in a high-pressing system is probably Gravenberch’s most impactful role. He has the technical and ball-carrying ability to be impactful in transition.

Arne Slot has used Gravenberch in a deeper role, operating in a double pivot. At times, Gravenberch has been used as the deepest midfielder.

This is a role he is familiar with from his spells with Ajax and Bayern Munich. In the Eredivisie, we’d often see Gravenberch drop between the central defenders to pick up the ball before driving forward.

For Bayern, he would invariably be slotted alongside Joshua Kimmich or Leon Goretzka in a 4-2-3-1, with the two holding players allowing the full backs to attack.

On his role under Slot, Gravenberch said, “I had a little chat with him [Slot] and he said I have to focus on the No.6 and No.8 positions.

“Now I play at No.6. In the past I played it as well so I know what I have to do. I’ve enjoyed playing there.

“It’s a little bit of a different system than we played last season, but I think everyone has adapted to it and now we have to build it further and further. I think at the end we can be a really dominant team.”

After Slot’s first three Premier League matches, Gravenberch is already finding life easier than he did under Jurgen Klopp.

“The coach knows that I have a lot of football in me. He has a clear plan, with the build-up, with the pressing. It is up to me to maintain that and be consistent.

“He gave me the chance from the start. I had to focus on a certain position. A bit more defensive. I do my thing and that works out well. That has to do with myself and with the coach. There was clarity from the start. We play as a team, and then the individual also looks better.”
