Real Sociedad Club History
Real Sociedad haven’t always been at the forefront of Europa League outright betting or competing for a top four spot in La Liga.
This isn’t a club devoid of success, but it also hasn’t been a straight-forward few decades for the team from the Basque Country.
Between 2007-08 and 2009-10, Sociedad were in the Segunda Division. It was their first time outside the topflight of Spanish football since a five-year stint in the Segunda during the 1960s.
Between those spells, their standing in La Liga fluctuated considerably, with the high point being a pair of league titles in the early 1980s.
The club remained competitive in the upper echelons of La Liga for a few years following those successes, but a demise began towards the end of the decade.
Sociedad spent the first few years of the 21st century in the bottom half before eventually succumbing to relegation.
Since then, they have worked their way back towards the top, registering seven top half finishes in nine seasons from 2012-13 to 2021-22.
Alberto Górriz, who represented the club from 1979 to 1993, holds the record for the most Real Sociedad appearances with 599.
Despite having his career prematurely ended by a knee injury, Jesús María Satrústegui has the all-time club goal scoring record with 162.
While Sociedad’s list of former players is nowhere as star-studded as many of their La Liga peers, the club has developed some big names, including Antoine Griezmann and Xabi Alonso.
Darko Kovačević featured for the club for a few seasons in the late 1990s, too, and Arsenal playmaker Martin Odegaard spent a season on loan with Los Txuri-Urdin in 2019-20.

Real Sociedad Competitions This Season
There are an array of competitions to back Real Sociedad if you fancy a bet on football.
Finishing sixth in 2021-22 qualified Sociedad for the 2022-23 Europa League, cementing a third consecutive season with continental football after a round of 32 exit from the Europa League in 2020-21, and a knockout playoff loss to RB Leipzig in the following season.

Sociedad started their Copa del Rey campaign against Cazalegas. Winning that tie, they then saw off Coria and Logrones to book a spot in the round of 16.
The club has three quarter-final appearances in the last six editions of the Copa del Rey, including when they lifted the trophy for a third time in their history in 2019-20.
The 2022-23 La Liga season kicked off with an away win over Cadiz. Eyeing a top four spot in 2023, Sociedad wrap up their campaign at home to struggling Sevilla in early June.
