Here at the 888sport blog we are proud to have worked with Henry De Bromhead as one of our racing ambassadors and it is perfectly understandable that we’re excited about his runners for the forthcoming 2022/23 season.

Henry is the only trainer to have won the Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase and the Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival in the same year – that being 2021.

Just a few weeks later, he saddled the first two horses home in the Aintree Grand National. No trainer had sent out a 1-2 in the race since 1908 and de Bromhead is only the second person to achieve the feat.

Here, we look at some of the best Henry de Bromhead horses in training for 2022/23 and discuss potential targets for 10 of the stable's greatest equine stars.

A Plus Tard

Likely to follow a similar path to last season, A Plus Tard was superb when winning the Betfair Chase at Haydock and then again in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

He powered up the Prestbury Park hill to give Rachael Blackmore a first win in the race and he is the one they all have to beat ahead of the 2023 Festival.

Henry de Bromhead has hinted at following the same path for A Plus Tard and a return to Haydock on 19th November could be on the cards.

Ground conditions at Haydock could force connections to look elsewhere but all being well, this will be his starting point and he will be very difficult to beat.

Bob Olinger

Bob Olinger never looked happy over fences during his novice chase campaign and the decision has been made to revert back to hurdles this season.

The Lismullen Hurdle at Navan has been suggested as an early season target and we could see Bob Olinger line up against two-time Stayers’ Hurdle winner Flooring Porter.

That would, at the very least, give connections an idea on where he stands in the division but De Bromhead hasn’t ruled out dropping back to two miles.

Either way, let’s hope that Bob Olinger can get back to his brilliant best. He was superb when winning the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival.

Envoi Allen

It looked like Envoi Allen was going to be a Cheltenham Gold Cup winner during his younger years but unfortunately things haven’t panned out that way.

He has had breathing issues but Henry de Bromhead recently confirmed that they’ve been working on that and hopefully his wind will be fine going forward.

Reports say that he will run in the Grade 1 Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal in early November and that will tell us if he’s capable of challenging at that level.

With the likes of Galvin and Conflated entered, he’s up against it but Envoi Allen has a cult following and there’ll be plenty of happy racegoers if he gets the job done.

Honeysuckle

The Queen of jumps racing, Honeysuckle’s journey to the top has been simply sensational and she remains unbeaten having won 16 out of 16 under rules.

She is likely to return in the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse in December and Henry de Bromhead will almost certainly follow the tried and tested route with her.

Honeysuckle owes connections nothing but she will remain in training for one final season before going on to broodmare duties.

An eagerly awaited contest with Constitution Hill could be on the cards at the Cheltenham Festival in March if everything goes to plan.
