Dominik Szoboszlai was listed as the 52nd-best footballer in the world by The Guardian in 2023. In his native Hungary, he has drawn comparisons to Ferenc Puskas. Since arriving at Liverpool, his versatility and technical prowess have impressed.

While only 23 years old at the time of writing, Szoboszlai has still featured in football betting at a senior level for the best part of a decade. Debuting at just 16 years of age for Liefering, he soon attracted the attention of the Red Bull empire, first flourishing in Salzburg before joining Leipzig.

He’s at his best as a box-to-box midfielder, but Szoboszlai is capable of impacting matches from a deep-lying position or when playing just off the striker. That versatility is invaluable for his managers.

Before you wager on Szoboszlai in online betting markets, let’s learn a bit more about the Hungarian star.

How Much Is Dominik Szoboszlai Worth?

Dominik Szoboszlai net worth is projected between £5 million and £15 million.

Spotrac reports that Szoboszlai is on £120,000 per week, which makes him the joint-69th-highest paid player in the Premier League in 2023-24. The Hungarian is tied with teammate Cody Gakpo, as well as Jarod Bowen, Alexander Isak, and John McGinn.

While he’s not quite a household name in the UK just yet, Szoboszlai has had plenty of endorsement deals throughout his career. One of the most lucrative is with Nike – he was wearing the Mercurial Vapor during the 2023-24 season.

On the topic of boots, it was even reported after Szoboszlai’s move to Liverpool that his father made him train in undersized boots to try and limit the growth of his feet.

Szoboszlai Chant

Dominik Szoboszlai immediately captured the Anfield fan base with his exquisite ball-striking and excellent all-around play. The Liverpool faithful were quick to knock up a few songs for their new Hungarian hero.

After efforts based around Whitney Houston and Simon & Garfunkel classics, Andy Hodgson’s rendition of Amy Macdonald’s hit ‘This Is The Life’ went viral across social media, and appears to be the chosen Szoboszlai song for the foreseeable future.

The lyrics are as follows:

When we’re singing his song,

And we’ll sing it all night,

When he’s passing from the left,

And he’s shooting from the right,

Where’s he gonna go,

Where’s he gonna go,

Dominik Szoboszlai.

Move To Liverpool

Dominik Szoboszlai signed for Liverpool during the 2023 summer transfer window. The Székesfehérvár native was the club’s fourth-most expensive signing of all-time.

Liverpool splashed £60 million on Szoboszlai. There have only been 45 transfers in football history with a bigger fee than Szoboszlai pocketed RB Leipzig.

While Liverpool clearly made a big financial commitment, the move has already been a success compared to other players who cost the same amount of money like Casemiro and Mykhailo Mudryk.

Soon after the Hungarian arrived on Merseyside, Jurgen Klopp spoke glowingly about his performances.

"He has pretty much all the attributes you want to see – and the last thing you would think when you see him playing is he is only 22, so there is a lot more to come when he settles in properly.

"Obviously, he has no problem to adapt to everything in an instant, but there is still more to come and we are really pleased.

"We are really pleased, from the first day since he was here he is full of energy. [He is] in the middle of the team already and, yes, it's good news."

Upon signing with the six-time European champions, Szoboszlai said, "It’s really, really good. I enjoyed the last [few] days and I’m looking forward to knowing everybody better.

"The last three or four days went really long; it was not that easy. But at the end I’m here, I’m happy and I can’t wait to get started.

"[A] really historic club, really good players, good coach, everything is good. For me it was perfect to make the next step in a club like this. The fans, the stadium, everything is really good."

Injury Problems

Dominik Szoboszlai had a pair of hamstring injuries during his first season with Liverpool. Suffering his first on New Year’s Day before another at the end of the month, the Hungarian missed a total of 12 matches through injury.

After an extended spell on the sidelines, Szoboszlai couldn’t get back to top form in the second half of the season. Liverpool ultimately slipped from title contention, and Szoboszlai enters Euro 2024 searching for the standards he set in his first few months in the Premier League.

Hungary manager Marco Rossi was critical of Szoboszlai after a 2-1 loss to Ireland in a warm-up match.

"This time his [Szoboszlai’s] game was average; Roland Sallai had a better day this time. Of course, he had good solutions, as always, but he also made unexpected mistakes that are not characteristic of him — but mistakes happen in the life of every footballer."

Style of Play

Dominik Szoboszlai is best described as a box-to-box midfielder, but he’s just as adept playing further forward. Julian Nagelsmann, his former manager, spoke highly of his versatility, with his ability to play on either flank or just behind a central striker.

With excellent vision and the technique to execute even the trickiest passes, Szoboszlai can dissect even the most stubborn defence. He also possesses superb close control, making him an impactful ball carrier.

Hard working out of possession, Szoboszlai is an effective presser. He’s unafraid of a challenge and will push up the pitch to harass opposing defenders when playing out from the back.

While he’s at his most dangerous with the ball at his feet, the Hungarian also has a knack for timing his runs well off the ball. He has no issue finding space between the lines.
