A former midfielder and the new manager of Liverpool, Arne Slot has become one of the most sought-after head coaches in world football.
Having led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in 2022-23, Slot guided his team to a couple of Champions League group stage wins and he's earned a 'mega contract' at Anfield as a result of his success.
According to De Telegraaf, Slot will be "able to earn around €8 million and he will be able to increase his salary to an even greater height with every national title or cup that he wins."
Per year | €8,000,000 | £6,828,352 |
Per month | €666,666 | £569,028 |
Per week | €153,846 | £131,314 |
Per day | €21,917 | £18,707 |
Per hour | €913 | £779 |
Per minute | €15 | £12 |
The 2023-24 season is not going to end in another league title for Slot. His Feyenoord team were not football betting favourites at the start of the season, and the rigours of European football saw his team fail to keep up with PSV Eindhoven.
Still, some of Europe’s biggest clubs were interested in hiring Slot and he has been confirmed as the man to take over from Jurgen Klopp, so let’s learn a bit more about the ex-Zwolle player.
How Much Is Arne Slot Worth?
Exact figures for Arne Slot net worth are hard to come by. In the summer of 2023, Slot was reportedly offered a £2.5 million deal by Feyenoord amid interest from Tottenham - before the Lilywhites hired Ange Postecoglou.
Slot’s salary in the Netherlands is considerably lower than most top Premier League managers receive. Revenue is much smaller in the Eredivisie, and that’s reflected in team budgets.
Once he officially replaces Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, some reports claim Slot will become the third-highest paid manager in the Premier League.
Klopp has long been among the best compensated managers in world football, and it appears the Liverpool hierarchy are willing to put Slot in a similar category, just as Manchester United did when they hired Erik ten Hag.
Liverpool Manager Rumours
It was reported on 24th April by that Liverpool are pursuing Arne Slot as the successor to Jurgen Klopp. Replacing one of the greatest managers in Premier League history is not an easy task (just ask David Moyes), but Slot is keen on the opportunity.
James Pearce of The Athletic claimed Liverpool might need to spend over £12 million to land Slot from Feyenoord.
Pearce said, “The latest is that Liverpool remain in negotiations with Feyenoord over a compensation package for their manager Arne Slot. As we’ve reported, Liverpool’s initial offer of around €9m was rejected.
“We understand that Feyenoord have been holding out for a figure much closer to €15m [£12.8m]. Slot still has two years left on his contract, no release clause, and of course they don’t want to lose him.
“What we do know is that Slot is very enthusiastic about taking over from Klopp. It’s a challenge that he wants to take on.”
Fabrizio Romano also reported about Liverpool’s pursuit of the Bergentheim native.
“It was an important day in Liverpool’s manager search as they spent all day in negotiations with Arne Slot and Feyenoord.
“In the morning, Liverpool made contact to start the conversations with Feyenoord, and from what I understand, the Dutch club don’t want to say anything about it in public because the talks are going very well.
“Their relationship is good, talks have been very positive, and that’s also the case with Liverpool and their conversations with Slot’s agent Rafaela Pimenta.
“Slot wants the Liverpool job, conversations so far have been super positive, so now it’s about reaching an agreement with Feyenoord. It’s going well and Slot is now the big favourite to become the next Liverpool manager.”
Leeds Rejection
Leeds approached Arne Slot in early 2023 after sacking Jesse Marsch. Desperate to avoid relegation, the Yorkshire club were turned down by Carlos Corberan and Andoni Iraoloa before turning to Slot.
Top of the Eredivisie with Feyenoord, Slot rejected Leeds’ advances. He went on to win just Feyenoord’s second league title since 1999, while Leeds dropped into the Championship after appointing Javi Gracia and then Sam Allardyce in the second half of the Premier League season.
Speaking to the press after Leeds’ approach became public, Slot said, "It is true that I will stay with Feyenoord, I can say that with this one. That is clear, fans do not have to be afraid.
"The club has been clear. It was a compliment that a club like Leeds was interested, but we are doing something great with Feyenoord. We are in a great position in the league, the cup and Europe.
"There is no disappointment. It's certainly not a punishment to stay here."
Arne Slot Style of Play
Similarities with Jurgen Klopp are clear. Slot favours intense pressing and quick ball movement in attack. There are obvious parallels with Klopp’s famed ‘heavy metal football’, yet Klopp has honed his methods to compete in the Premier League, and Slot would likely do the same.
Favouring a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, Slot’s tactics and stylistic preferences should work well with the current Liverpool personnel. His defensive midfielders often drop deep in the build-up phase, which is a role many of Liverpool’s midfielders are already comfortable with.
In attack, Slot doesn’t want to overload on the flanks. He prefers one player keeping the shape on each side with either the winger or full-back inverting to give a numerical advantage in the middle of the pitch.
Slot also prioritises getting bodies into ‘zone 14’, which is the central area on the edge of the box. This is where he believes most goals come from.
Slot’s proactive approach out of possession is reflected in the numbers. His Feyenoord team have made the most tackles in the attacking third in 2023-24, and the second-most in the middle third.
It’s rare that a top team will have such sizeable numbers for an aggregate defensive actions statistic – this shows just how ferocious his side are in trying to win back possession.
Jurjan Mannes, who played for Slot at Cambuur, spoke to Sky Sports about what Liverpool fans can expect.
"I was lucky to have a trainer like him in my career. By then, we already knew they were going to press with three, we were going to build with two defenders and two midfielders dropping back and this was the solution to beat the press. In his sessions, you were already handed the solutions for Friday.
"What Arne did really well was the clarity of what we were going to do versus what the opponent wants us to do. It was so clear. That was the best thing. When you did video analysis with him or were just speaking about your role, he just simplified everything.
"He made it really clear what the goal of your position was, what he wanted you to do, what he didn't want you to do. He gave examples using videos, that kind of stuff. It was really clear what he wanted from me, what I had to adjust, and then you just go out and do it."
Mannes also believes Slot gets more out of his players than other coaches.
"He took over from Dick Advocaat, a good coach but a coach with a completely different style to Arne. You could see how the team changed, the style, the dominance, the results, the trophies. Arne gets more out of players than a normal coach."
